The Board of Electors to the Professor of Clinical Gerontology invite applications for this Professorship from persons whose work falls within the general field of Clinical Gerontology, with a specialism in vascular ageing, to take up appointment in 2019.

The successful applicant will be a gifted clinically-qualified population health scientist with an interest in the broad area of vascular ageing, who can engage deeply with major existing strengths in cardiovascular science in Cambridge, including the planned £60m Cambridge Heart and Lung Institute.

Candidates will have an outstanding research record of international stature in cardiovascular disease, relevant to the theme of vascular ageing, as well as a strong background in population health science. They will bring a strong track record of enthusiastic commitment to the recruitment, training and mentoring of the next generation of researchers, and the vision, leadership and experience to build on current strengths in maintaining and developing a leading research presence. They will hold a PhD and a medical qualification (eg MBChB degree or equivalent) or a Consultant-level clinical qualification in a relevant specialty area (eg cardiology, public health, neurology, clinical gerontology).

As well as producing high-impact publications in internationally recognised scientific journals and attracting major research income, standard professorial duties include contribution to the organisation, development, delivery, and assessment of teaching in the various programmes run by the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, and to the training and development of researchers. A competitive salary will be offered.
