Imperial College London Business School has appointed Leila Guerra as their new Associate Dean of Programmes. Ms Guerra currently serves as Assistant Dean for Postgraduate Programmes at Singapore Management University’s Lee Kong Chian Business School, she will begin her new role on the 15th March 2018.

Professor Jeremy Tavaré has been appointed as Dean of the University of Bristol’s new Faculty of Life Sciences, which is to be officially launched on 1st August 2018. Professor Tavaré, a Biochemist, is currently the Director of Research (Health & Life Sciences) at the University of Bristol.

The University of Birmingham Dubai has appointed Professor Glyn Watson as its first Provost – the University’s most senior academic leader. Professor Watson, currently holds the position of Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Social Sciences at the University of Birmingham’s UK campus. Professor Watson will take up his new role from April 1st 2018.

University of Hong Kong has announced Professor Xiang Zhang as the 16th President and Vice-Chancellor of the University for a term of five years, succeeding Professor Peter Mathieson who will leave the University in January 2018. Professor Zhang is currently the Ernest Kuh Endowed Chair Professor at the University of California, Berkeley and has been the Director of the Nano Scale Science and Engineering Centre of UCB since 2003.

Professor Alex Halliday has been appointed as Director of Columbia University’s Earth Institute. Professor Halliday, who is currently Professor of Geochemistry and Vice President of the Royal Society at The University of Oxford, will begin his new role Spring 2018.

University of the West of Scotland (UWS) has appointed Professor Steve Olivier as its new Deputy Principal and Deputy Vice-Chancellor. Professor Olivier joins UWS from Abertay University where he has been since 2005, latterly as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). Professor Olivier will begin his new role in May 2018.

Professor Ian Greer has been appointed Vice-Chancellor at Queens University, Belfast. Professor Greer is currently Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health at The University of Manchester, he will be leaving Manchester August 2018.

The University of Cumbria has named Professor Sara de Freitas as their new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) replacing Professor Trish Livsey who will be retiring in June. Professor de Freitas comes back to the UK from Murdoch University in Australia where she held the post of PVC in Learning and Teaching. She will begin her new role at the beginning of March 2018

The University of Cumbria also announced that Dr Jean Brown, former Head of Strategic Development Service at UCLan, will take up post as University Secretary on 1 April 2018.

Professor Lawrence Bellamy has been appointed as Academic Dean to the Faculty of Business, Law and Tourism at the University of Sunderland. He joins the University as former Deputy Provost and Associate Dean at the University of Chester and prior to that as Head of Strategy and Economics at Leeds Business School.

Professor Scott Fleming has been named Executive Dean: Research, Knowledge Exchange and External Engagement at Bishop Grosseteste University. Professor Fleming is currently Director of Research and Graduate Studies at Cardiff Metropolitan University and will start his new role from the 1st April 2018.

The University of Edinburgh has announced Professor Peter Mathieson as the new Principal and Vice-Chancellor. Professor Mathieson joins Edinburgh from the University of Hong Kong where he was President and Vice-Chancellor, having previously been Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Bristol. He will succeed Professor Sir Timothy O’Shea as Principal and Vice-Chancellor, who is standing down from the role after more than 15 years at the helm of Scotland’s largest university.

Professor Ian Walmsley FRS, has been appointed as the next Provost of Imperial College London. Professor Walmsley is currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and Hooke Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Oxford and will take up his role on 1 September 2018, succeeding Professor James Stirling on his retirement.

Professor Subra Suresh was formally inaugurated in February as the fourth President of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Professor Suresh, who officially became NTU President on 1 January this year, was also conferred the title of Distinguished University Professor during the ceremony. Professor Suresh was previously the ninth President of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) from 2013 to 2017.

The University of Oxford has announced Harris Manchester College has elected Professor Jane Shaw, Dean for Religious Life and Professor of Religious Studies at Stanford, to be the new Principal from 1st October 2018.
