Professor Julie Sanders has been appointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Newcastle University. Professor Sanders joined Newcastle University in 2015 as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She takes up the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Elect post with immediate effect but will also continue in her current role until a successor is appointed.

Professor Stephen Hardy has been announced as the Head of Coventry Law School at Coventry University. Professor Hardy is currently Head of School of Law at the University of Bolton and takes up his new position in January 2018.

Professor Giovanni Montana has recently taken up the new position of Professor of Data Science at WMG at the University of Warwick. Professor Montana was previously Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at King’s College London.

The University of Bath has appointed Professor Jeremy Bradshaw to the new role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International & Doctoral). Professor Bradshaw is currently Chair of Molecular Biophysics, Assistant Principle of Researcher Development and International Dean of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He is due to take up his new appointment in February 2018.

Professor Susan Rigby has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Bath Spa University. Professor Rigby, currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for student development at The University of Lincoln, will take up the post on 22 January 2018.

Poet Simon Armitage has been announced as the University of Leeds’ first Professor of Poetry.

Kristy Draper has been appointed as the Global Trials Manager for the European Prevention of Alzheimer’s Consortium (EPAD). Kristy was previously a Global Trials Leader at Roche Pharmaceuticals and took up her new position at the end of November.

Multi award-winning playwright Simon Stephens has been appointed as Manchester Metropolitan University’s first ever Professor of Scriptwriting.

Professor Stephen Powis has been named medical director of NHS England. Professor Powis, currently professor of renal medicine at UCL and has been medical director at the Royal Free for almost 12 years, will take up his new role at NHS England at the start of next year.

The University of Manchester and Manchester City Council have announced that Alistair Hudson, currently Director of the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (mima), will be the new Director of Manchester Art Gallery and the Whitworth. He will begin his new role in the new year.

Sarah Horton-Walsh has been announced as the Head of School of Marketing and Management at Coventry University. Sarah was previously acting in this role.

Plymouth College of Art has appointed Christy Johnson as its second Vice Principal. Most recently, Christy was Professor and Chair of the Art Department at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.

Professor Richard Black has been announced as the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Social Sciences at The University of Birmingham. Professor Black, who is currently Pro-Director (Research and Enterprise) and Professor of Development Studies at SOAS University of London, will take up the post in April 2018.

The University of Southampton has announced the appointment of Colin Smith as Pro-Chancellor. Mr Smith, former Director and Group President of Rolls-Royce, started his role with immediate effect in October.

Professor Gill Valentine has been confirmed to the role of Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sheffield. Professor Valentine has been successfully carrying out the role of interim Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor since September 2017, she was previously Head of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The University of Edinburgh, College of Science and Engineering has announced two new dean appointments. Professor David Leach, from the School of Biological Sciences, has been appointed to the new role of Dean of Academic Excellence and Dr Niamh Shortt, from the School of GeoSciences, has been appointed as Dean of Diversity and Inclusion.

Professor Stephen Hallett has been appointed as the Director of the Composites University Technology Centre (UTC), supported by Rolls-Royce, at the University of Bristol. The change in Directorship coincides with the ten-year anniversary of the UTC, for which celebrations were recently held at the University of Bristol.
