The University of Oxford have announced the appointment of Professor Gavin Screaton as Head of the Medical Sciences Division, effective October 1st. Professor Screaton is currently Chair of Medicine and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London where he previously served as Vice-Dean (Academic Development).

The University of Hull has appointed Dr Judith Cohen as Director of the Hull Health Trials Unit. Dr Cohen, who is currently a Research Fellow and the Assistant Director at the University of Sheffield’s Clinical Trials Research Unit, will take up her new position in November.

Professor Clare Mackie has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Birmingham City University. Professor Mackie joins from the University of Sussex, where she has been Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) since 2010 and takes up her new role January 2018.

King’s College London have announced Professor Jonathan Grant as its new Vice-President/Vice-Principal (Service), a new role created to lead the development of a strategy of service for King’s, one of the five priorities identified in King’s Strategic Vision 2029.

Ms Jennie Chua has been appointed as a Pro-Chancellor of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Ms Chua served as a member of NTU’s Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2014 and has been a Trustee Emeritus since 12 Nov 2014.

Oxford University has announced Professor Irene Tracey will be the next Warden of Merton College, Oxford. Professor Tracey, who is currently Head of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neuroscience and Nuffield Chair of Anaesthetic Science will succeed Sir Martin Taylor FRS, who retired in September 2018 after eight years in post.

Professor Nick Braisby has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University. Professor Braisby will be leaving the University of West London as Pro Vice-Chancellor, a position he has held since 2013, to join Bucks in the autumn term.

The University of York has appointed Professor Judith Buchanan as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Professor Buchanan, who has been the Interim Dean of the Faculty since January and is the current Director of the Humanities Research Centre, will take up her position in October.

Professor Sarah Barrow has been appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Arts and Humanities at The University of East Anglia (UEA). Professor Barrow was previously Deputy Head of the College of Arts at the University of Lincoln, staff member of the Board of Governors and, prior to that, Head of School for Film and Media.

Queen Margaret University (QMU), Edinburgh, has announced four new senior academic management appointments. Professor Brigid Daniel has been appointed as Dean of School of Arts, Social Sciences and Management; Professor Philip Drake as Director of the Centre for Communication, Cultural and Media Studies (CCCMS); Dr Oliva Sagan as Head of Division of Psychology and Sociology; and Professor Monika Foster as Head of Division of Business, Enterprise and Management.

The University of Surrey has announced Professor David Sampson will be the next Vice-Provost of Research and Innovation. Professor Sampson joins the University of Surrey from his current role at the University of Western Australia in Perth, where he is Head of the Optical and Biomedical Engineering Laboratory and Director of the Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis. He has previously held positions at the University of Melbourne and the University of Kent.

The University of Nottingham’s world-leading epidemiologist and Professor of Health Protection, Jonathan Van-Tam MBE, has been appointed Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England by the Department of Health.

Professor Karim Raza, Professor of Clinical Rheumatology at the University of Birmingham, has been appointed as Arthritis Research UK’s Chair of Rheumatology in Birmingham and will play a pivotal role in the treatment of patients with inflammatory rheumatic conditions
